prom gown

Fashion lovers are always trying to anticipate the future. What will everyone be wearing next month, next year, or ten years from now? There is one trend that is clear – edginess. Here’s why the best prom gowns 2011 will be edgy.

Embrace the Edginess

The world is changing so quickly around us. Technology is advancing rapidly and it’s opening up doors to things you never imagined were possible. And this newfound imagination has sparked spectacular creativity.

If you look at the past seasons of Project Runway compared to this year’s, you will notice the change. The designers are really pushing the boundaries of shape, tone, and volume.

Everything is edgy. From exposed zippers on the backs of dresses, to enlarged armholes that reveal more than ever. Every area of apparel will be affected by this trend to push the limits of what is fashionable. And that includes prom dresses.

The Edge of Prom Fashion

We are already starting to see designs that are bold, edgy, and flamboyant. If you had worn some of these years ago, you may have looked overdressed or too done up. But in 2011, you will be right in step with what models are wearing on the runway.

La Femme style #15909 speaks for itself. It’s a barely there short look that is utterly hypnotizing. Black, white, silver, and copper slices of sequined shards form a mosaic pattern. It is trimmed with a black strap that crisscrosses into an A-pattern between the shoulder blades.

Talk about edge! The shards in the pattern and the fact that they are made from sequins makes it look and FEEL edgy. Forget about 2011, this presentation is so fashion forward it’s almost 3011.

Precious Formals style #H46555 is more evidence that the best prom gowns 2011 will be ferocious. It is a body-fitted, floor length, leopard print cascade of luxury. It has one strap that branches out into four straps that leash across an open back.

Of course, the animal print is edgy in and of itself, but it is really the cut that has taken this out of 2010 and into 2011. It is cut so close to the shape of the bust, waist, and hips that it is nearly painted on. This is ferocity on high volume.

If you want to experiment with edginess at your formal, you can’t go wrong with animal prints. Sherri Hill #2337 is another outfit that uses a leopard print for maxed out sharpness. This is a brand new product so you may have trouble tracking it down.

The strapless top half is a faux leopard skin bustier while the bottom, mid-thigh skirt is layer upon layer of pink feathers. This combination breaks all the rules once followed in designing. The mix-match of fabric textures is bonded by a jeweled belt.

This is an exciting time for fashion. Hopefully, this peek into the future will encourage you to get wild and really use your imagination and creativity. You now have an edge on the looks for tomorrow. Throw everything you thought was wrong out the window and dress for the future.
